Why seeing what's left makes you more productive

Work expands to fill the time available, an observation known as Parkinson's law. A clear view of how little time is actually left does the opposite. It creates a deadline you can feel, and it makes trade-offs concrete.

Jordan's afternoon at the $250,000 goal rate
Working minutes left today140
Value of a minute$2.00
What the rest of today is worth$280

Spending an hour of that on low-value email costs $120 of goal time. Seeing it in dollars makes the choice obvious.

Questions and answers

What does Outlook show?

Outlook shows the working time left today, this week, this month and this year, in minutes and in dollars. Today is split into morning, afternoon and evening, the month is a ring of minutes left, and the year is a grid of days. Seeing what's left makes it easier to spend the rest of the day on what matters.

How does seeing time left improve productivity?

A visible, shrinking amount of time works like a deadline. It turns vague priorities into concrete trade-offs, so it's easier to say no to low-value work and start on what matters.

How many working hours are there in a year?

A standard full-time year is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, or 2,080 hours. After holidays and vacation most people work closer to 1,800 to 1,900. Outlook counts from your own schedule.

Can I change my working hours?

Yes. Each profile has its own schedule, and Outlook uses it to count the time and money you have left.

Which devices does Time Valuer run on?
